Sylvia Maxfield, Ph.D.
Dr. Maxfield is a Harvard Ph.D. with career experience spanning academia and business. She is a widely published author on risk, regulation and governance topics, particularly focused on finance and globalization. As Dean of the Providence College School of Business, she leads a 70-person team of faculty and staff dedicated to providing a world-class business education deeply and uniquely rooted in the liberal arts. In business, Dr. Maxfield was Vice President and Senior Sovereign Credit Analyst at the Wall Street firm of Lehman Brothers. Before becoming Dean of the Providence College School of Business, she was MBA Director and Professor of Management at Simmons College where she built a curriculum for teaching sustainability analysis. She held many leadership positions at Simmons College including Faculty Senate President and Chair of the campus Fiscal Affairs Committee. At Yale for ten years, Dr. Maxfield held joint faculty appointments in Management and Political Science and directed the Master’s program in International Relations. Dr. Maxfield completed her undergraduate baccalaureate degree at Cornell’s School of Arts and Sciences. She is married and has three grown children.

Daniel Horne, Ph.D.
Associate Dean — Faculty Development
Dr. Dan Horne is one of the world’s leading experts on how consumers make payment choices, an area he has studied since 1992. Horne is professor of marketing at the Providence College School of Business, where he teaches Consumer Research. He is also associate editor of the Journal of Consumer Affairs.
In 1992, Horne began a series of large-scale research projects investigating the consumer purchase and usage of gift certificates and cards as well as the role these products play as rewards, incentives, and promotions. He has completed major studies on consumer payments in the United States, Canada, the U.K., France, Germany, Italy, Turkey, South Africa, Tanzania, Kenya, India, and Australia. His extensive writing appears in top academic and practitioner journals.
He has worked for 20 years as a researcher, analyst, and adviser on consumer payments for retailers, financial services companies, and suppliers in North America, Europe, and Australasia. He provides expert commentary on retailer performance to the financial markets, and to the print and electronic media. He has served as an adviser to governmental authorities in the U.S. and Canada. He is a member of the Board of Directors of The Corporate Marketplace and the co-founder and non-executive director of the London-based research and advisory company, Gx. He received his Ph.D. from the University of Michigan.

Jacqueline Elcik, Ph.D.
Assistant Dean — Graduate Programs, Assessment & Student Engagement
Jacqueline Elcik started her position at the Providence College School of Business in July 2013. Jacqueline has worked in the field of higher education for nearly twenty years. Her previous work experience includes: Executive Director, Undergraduate Programs and Advising Office at the Fisher College of Business at The Ohio State University, Interim Assistant Dean of Undergraduate Programs and Director of Graduate Programs in the Lindner College of Business at the University of Cincinnati, Director of First Year Experience and Orientation Programs and Interim Director of Residence Life and New Student Programs at Miami University. Elcik is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Sociology from the University of Cincinnati. She has a MA in Higher Education and Student Affairs from The Ohio State University and BA from Case Western Reserve University.
