Organizational diversity; inclusion; stigma; gender; race; leadership
Teaching Philosophy:
From the moment we enter this earth to the moment we leave it, we are taken care of, developed, educated, employed, entertained, served, and affected by organizations. It is imperative, then, that we as people not only understand but contribute positively to these exceedingly important aspects of society.
My teaching purpose is to instill in my students a greater understanding and appreciation of people and our diverse perspectives and experiences. This includes helping students to understand themselves better and why people within organizations feel, think, and behave the way they do. The primary message I want my students to come away from my courses with is that the people make the place and that each of them can and should shape the organizations in which they find themselves.
My broader purpose is to make an impact on future leaders, as well as on society in general, by creating (through my research) and conveying (through my teaching) knowledge that can inform norms, practices, and policies related to diversity, equity, and inclusion so that all people thrive in our organizations and beyond.
