Business Analytics
In a world where data reigns supreme, mastering the principles of business analytics has emerged as a pivotal skill for professionals. The School of Business collaborates with industry leaders to offer the Business Analytics graduate certificate program. Led by distinguished PC faculty, this impactful 3-course, 9-credit-hour program provides students with crucial skills in strategic decision-making and quantitative analysis using data.
Lisa McNamara ’23, ‘24G, a current student in the program shares her perspective on the value of the program for her career aspirations. “I was motivated to pursue a certificate in business analytics due to the increasing demand for these skills in the workforce today,” Lisa explains. She emphasizes the program’s practical relevance, stating, “Increasing my knowledge in this field will allow me to thrive in my career.”
Lisa further highlights the importance of expanding her proficiency beyond traditional tools like Excel, noting, “learning how to truly utilize software beyond Excel, such as R, Python and Orange, is another hard skill to add to my resume.” By mastering these software programs, McNamara aims to enhance her capacity for data analysis and interpretation, positioning herself as a sought-after asset in her field.
Reflecting on her overall experience, she notes, “One insight I have learned throughout the program is that there are multiple ways to approach business analytics.” With an abundance of software programs available, Lisa points out the impracticality of attempting to master them all. Instead, she advocates for a strategic approach: “Finding some that you can really get the hang of and make your niche can be beneficial in your career beyond the certificate programs.”
Digital Marketing
In today’s digital age, mastering the intricacies of digital marketing is imperative for businesses and brands striving to stay ahead of the curve. The School of Business digital marketing graduate certificate is designed to equip professionals with the marketing strategies and tactics needed to navigate the unique challenges and opportunities in this industry. The program covers essential topics like social media marketing, content strategy, and digital advertising. Through a blend of theoretical exploration and a real-world digital marketing consulting project, students hone their ability to develop creative and strategic marketing solutions.
As Emma McDonough ’23, ‘24G, a current student in the program reflects on her motivations for pursuing the digital marketing certificate, she notes, “I recognized the importance of staying current with the latest tools and trends in digital marketing understanding that consumer behavior and technology are constantly evolving.” Through hands-on projects and coursework, she has actively engaged in refining her skills. “I’ve gained an understanding of how to effectively optimize ad campaigns and interpret metrics, but most importantly, I have sharpened my ability to think strategically.
Reflecting on the program’s highlights, Emma emphasizes the invaluable experiences gained through the semester-long digital marketing consulting project with their client, Narragansett Brewery. “This project allowed us to apply our learnings to a real-world scenario,” Emma explains. The project scope encompassed targeting legal drinking age consumers, specifically those aged 21-25, to increase foot traffic to the Providence Brewery. With a $10,000 budget, they devised a strategic digital marketing plan to amplify engagement and attract the target demographic. “We collaborated closely with the client, conducting a competitive analysis, auditing their digital presence, and crafting both immediate and strategic recommendations. We refined our strategies based on ongoing insights and feedback.” This project is a testament to the practical learning opportunities provided by the program.
Sports Management
In the ever-changing world of sports management, where billions of dollars are at stake, staying at the forefront requires more than just passion—it demands expertise. The School of Business sports management graduate certificate offers students a curriculum that covers key areas such as marketing, leadership, and the historical context of sports business at the professional and collegiate levels. Students are given the opportunity to complete a sports-related internship and elective courses, immersing themselves in real-world scenarios.
Nolan LeBrasseur ’23, ’24G, currently enrolled in the sports management certificate program, reflects on the valuable insights he has gained thus far. “Despite my lifelong dedication to sports, the program has illuminated just how much more there is to learn about sports management and the business behind it. I have learned how expansive the industry is and how many different avenues there are within it.” This program prepares students for diverse opportunities within the field; it equips them with the skills need to thrive in roles such as sports marketing, athlete representation, event management, facility operations, and sports media.
As he continues to explore the program, Nolan is excited to further expand his knowledge and skills to pursue a fulfilling career in this field. He emphasizes, “I’ve come to realize the transformative power of social media in the sports industry—it’s not just about connecting with fans, but also about shaping brand identity, driving engagement, and forging meaningful partnerships with sponsors. It’s something I am excited to continue to explore.” Nolan further reflects on the diverse projects undertaken throughout the program: “We’ve delved into the realm of NIL opportunities for PC sports teams and carefully analyzed different elements of sports business, including firsthand observations at professional sports events.
