Meet Jessica Cunningham, Ph.D, Assistant Professor of Accountancy
By Faith Reis ‘25

During the fall 2024 semester, several new faculty members joined the Providence College School of Business including Jessica Cunningham, Ph.D., assistant professor of accountancy.
“What drew me to Providence College’s Business School is the exceptional quality of both the faculty and the students,” she said. “I am truly impressed by their intelligence and strong work ethic, but what stands out even more is their well-rounded nature and genuine kindness.”
In her new role, she is most excited about the opportunity to inspire and engage her students in the accounting field. She said sharing her passion for the subject and helping students to understand its real-world applications is incredibly rewarding to her. She looks forward to creating a dynamic learning environment where students can feel empowered to ask questions and think critically.
Cunningham previously worked at Deloitte Tax LLP and Third Rock Ventures, which has enabled her to bring these insights into the classroom. She is also equipped with real-world business examples to help students connect in-class concepts to practical scenarios.
When asked what advice she would give to someone pursuing a career in accounting, she said, “Keep an open mind and explore all your options — there are more opportunities than you might realize.”
“Consider a wide range of possibilities and take the time to find the path that best aligns with your interests and goals,” she added. Something that students may not know about Cunningham is that she loves to travel and run marathons! She is working toward running a marathon in all 50 states and has already completed 27 out of 50 thus far. She even signed up to run a marathon in South Africa next summer.
