Maddie Frick’ 24 was a marketing major with a studio art minor at Providence College. Frick kicked off her media career during her first year at Providence. She worked as a PC Dining intern all four years, served as the president of Colleges Against Cancer, and loved teaching Les Mills BODYPUMP classes at the Concannon Fitness Center. During the summer after her junior year, she worked as a marketing intern for Carthartt, the workwear clothing brand. But she said that serving as creative director for the Benjamin Family Social Media Fellowship is what made her sure she wanted to work at an agency.

Life After Graduation

Frick’s first position after graduation was as an associate media planner for Carat in New York City. She worked on media plans for well-known brands: Kraft, Heinz, and TacoBell. She says networking with Providence alumni helped her get started, especially keeping in touch with them during the spring of senior year. With the connections she made at Carat, she transitioned her current job as a senior associate in planning for Omnicom Media, where she has been for a year.

Now, Frick works on managing and helping prepare media plans for Amazon products. She and her team are responsible for any Kindle, Fire TV, or Alexa Tablet advertisements you might see on television. In her position, collaboration is essential, as she’s constantly sharing her ideas with others. “It’s the place to be for an extrovert,” she said.

Like every job, it comes with its challenges. Frick explained that when working with an agency, it’s rare you’ll ever be working on one brand alone. “Every brand is different and you’ll treat them all differently,” she said, so it’s important that she’s able to juggle multiple projects and multiple tasks.

Future Advice for Friars

“Don’t be scared to double message people,” she says. Just because someone is in a higher position doesn’t mean they don’t want to help. She admits that she might have been pushy, but sending those double messages is what makes you stand out and shows ambition. That’s why she believes she got to where she is today. Everyone was in the same position at some point and probably networked just like the rest of us. Friars always want to pay it forward.
