Internship Spotlight: Katie Sullivan ’18
Providence College has no shortage of exceptional students, which is why we established a platform where we can let their accomplishments shine. Our Internship Spotlight series provides the perfect place for them to recount some of the most memorable aspects of their impressive internship experiences. From companies like L’Oreal to RXR Realty, the students of the PCSB transition from classroom to real world by taking what they’ve learned and applying it to their delegated roles. This week we are excited to introduce senior Katie Sullivan who interned for the Providence Bruins last spring!
- What is your major/minor?

I spoke to a representative from the Providence Bruins at the fall ’16 Career Expo at PC and was called in for an interview the following week.
- What did an average day with the Providence Bruins look like? Did you have a particular project/job that you enjoyed best?
On game days, I would arrive about two hours early with two other interns. Sometimes we would prep the press box with everything necessary for that game. Then, one of us would take responsibility for media and official check in. A half an hour before game start we would go down to the officials to get the final roster. This was my favorite part of the night. I loved seeing the players right before they took the ice and feeling the energy of the crowd as the excitement for puck drop grew. It was amazing my first game, and I felt that same energy through my last. Before puck drop we had to distribute the final roster to the attending media and off-ice officials in the press box. During the game, our jobs would vary based on the night. We would watch the game to possibly assist with social media or the press release and distribute game stats throughout. After the game, we would get the officials to sign the score sheet, and we would also clean up the press box.
- Is this a field you would be interested in working in post-grad? If so, why?
This is definitely a field I would be interested in working in. I found that public and media relations combine my love for the behavior of people, my sociology major, and the statistics behind it, my math minor. I think it is an exciting field with a lot to offer for someone with my specific interests.
- What was one thing that you learned this past summer that you feel will help you in your future career?
I learned the basics of professional social media and how sponsorships behind social media accounts work. I think this will be helpful in anything I do because social media lends itself to many professions and applications.
