Dear Friars,

As I often say, the Providence College School of Business is building a business school that combines the best of our 800 year-old Dominican tradition while leaning into the future. More than ever, our country needs Friars who demonstrate the core values of PC, so neatly summed up by Coach Cooley as Us, We, Together, Family. Regaining a sense of normalcy this year, I could see students, faculty, and alumni thriving and collectively bringing renewed energy to our mission of preparing students for work and life in an ever-changing world. Your generous support has allowed us to weather uncertain times and come out stronger than ever.

The PCSB is a community where we draw on self-awareness, in the Dominican tradition of contemplation, to fuel our commitment to others. We are a place where students are doing amazing things every day – from solving real-world problems, to giving back to the community, to graduating at the top of the class. Faculty are publishing timely and relevant research while prioritizing teaching and mentoring.

PC’s founding purpose to educate the children of Rhode Islands’ immigrant families calls us every day to work for educational access and to make our community equally welcoming for all. This past year the PCSB partnered with Providence-based community organizations to build more engagement with students and families locally. To support broadening identity representation in business school teaching materials, the PCSB hosted faculty from around the country in partnership with KPMG’s PhD Project for a workshop on writing cases featuring non-traditional protagonists and settings. All this combined has resulted in our highest rankings ever at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, with incredible alumni satisfaction measures and our largest incoming class of business students. As our students, faculty and staff continue to grow, I know we are just beginning to build a distinctive business school incorporating the virtues of a liberal arts education and Dominican heritage. Together, with your continued support, we will continue on this journey.

Thank you for all that you do for the PCSB.

In gratitude,

Sylvia Maxfield
