Elijah Osagie on BLK Capital Management

Elijah Osagie ’26 is the founder and host of the BLK Podcast and acts as BLK Capital Management Corp’s Chief Investment Officer. Here at Providence College, Elijah is a junior quantitative finance major, the head of portfolio construction for SLAM (Student Led Asset Management), and a mathematics and finance tutor. He has also held internships as an investment analyst for Alger in Boston Massachusetts and as an equity research analyst for Cowen Inc. in New York. This summer he will be heading back to New York to be a banking analyst at Bank of America. His achievements speak for themselves but Elijah’s insight towards his work represents the deep understanding and dedication he has that can be a lesson in success. He seeks not only to better himself but also those around him in the spirit of Black History Month.

How would you characterize BLK Capital Management and what it provides?

BLK is a black student-run hedge fund that aims to promote careers in finance to students from historically underrepresented backgrounds. We accept applications from students across the globe with most of our students hailing from the United States and United Kingdom. The organization hosts weekly spotlight calls with one of our 60+ sponsors for students to engage with recruiters and learn from their full-time employees. On the hedge fund side, analysts form teams with our portfolio managers to prepare and pitch stocks over a five-week process. Once pitched, stocks are eligible to buy in BLK’s actively managed investment portfolio. I direct the organization’s hedge fund efforts along with hosting the BLK Podcast.

Is there any episode of your podcast you would direct new listeners to and a lesson you have learned from your conversations?

Each one is tailored to a different type of listener, which is what makes the BLK Podcast so special. If you have a specific career interest, I’d say listen to an episode with someone who currently works in your field of interest. If not, Episode 036 – “From Neuroscience to Wall St: Folarin’s Journey to Goldman Sachs” is a great episode with lots of general career advice for young listeners. I’d also recommend tuning in to the Weekly Market Update. It shares investor news and stock market highlights in less than five minutes. New episodes drop every Monday.

Is there anything you would like to highlight about your journey that could help others?

I would say building a strong brand and network are two of the most underrated things that have helped me thus far in my career. Being able to have good things said about you or your work product to others can open a lot of doors.
