THOMAS PTASHNIK

  • Paper Accepted: A six-year study led by Dr. Thomas Ptashnik at Providence College found that working mothers often gain, rather than lose, from parenthood at work—challenging the traditional “motherhood penalty.” The research introduces a new concept, Family-Centered Symbolic Meaning of Work (FCSMW), showing that mothers view their jobs as a way to model values for their families. As a result, they tend to show greater effort, ethical awareness, and organizational support, offering a powerful new perspective on motherhood in the workplace.
