Student Co-Curricular Activities

Our student co-curricular activities have focused on supporting student involvement in ethics case competitions.

During the 2018-2019 school year, the Providence College School of Business hosted the Michael Smith Regional Ethics Case Competition, which included participants from other higher education institutions. Teams from Johnson & Wales University, LaSalle University, Simmons University, and Worcester Polytechnic Institute joined PC in taking part. Participating teams were asked to analyze the opioid crisis from an ethical standpoint and make recommendations to the U.S. Congress on actions that might be taken to improve the situation.

During the 2017-2018 academic year, we hosted the second Michael Smith Ethics Case Competition. The case focused on ethical issues associated with the National Football League’s response to Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy (CTE).

During the 2016-2017 academic year, we hosted the first Michael Smith Ethics Case Competition. The case centered on the ethics surrounding self-driving vehicles. Eighteen four-member teams of PC students competed in the semi-final round, with four teams moving to the final round. A team of four sophomores (Michael Cruz, Matthew Gould, Mitchell Pitkin, and Allison Post) won the top prize. For more information on the competition and the winning team, click here!

During the 2015-2016 academic year, we supported student participation in the Eller Case Competition at the University of Arizona and the Berg Cup Case Competition at the University of Pittsburgh. We were delighted when our Providence College team (Seniors Connor Barrett, Cristian Higuita Montoya, Kristin Michels, and Benjamin Swiszcz) won the 2016 Berg Cup Case Competition with the best performance of the 40+ colleges and universities participating in that competition.
