Spring 2024 Competition Registration

Thank you for your interest in the Providence College Ethics in Business Education Program’s Michael Smith Business Ethics Case Competition, to be held virtually on Saturday, February 24, 2024.

For this competition, teams of three or four undergraduate students analyze a business ethics case over a two-week period before the competition and then present their solution to a panel of judges. All cases will be presented online. Both the preliminary and final rounds will be held on February 24. A prize of $2,400 is awarded to the first-place team and the second-place team is awarded a $1,200 prize. All teams are required to have an adviser.

Here are additional details about registration and the case competition:

  • The cost for the competition is $100 per team (includes one adviser), which must be paid upon registration.
  • Faculty/Staff advisers must be available on February 24 and virtually “accompany” their teams to the competition.
  • Complete team member information is required by February 2. You will be sent a form after you have registered.
  • The case will be distributed electronically by February 9.
  • Teams will submit a PowerPoint presentation by noon on February 23. there should be no school-identifying information on the PowerPoint presentation or student attire.
  • On February 24, each team will have 15 minutes to present their case recommendations to the panel of judges. This will be followed by 5-10 minutes of questions.
  • Judges will utilize the following criteria in evaluating teams during the competition
    • Content of presented material
    • Delivery
    • Persuasiveness
    • Recommendations that are ethical and sound from a business perspective
    • Responses to questions
