MBA PROGRAM ACCOLADES AND ADVANCEMENTS

PCSB has the highest-ranked MBA program in Rhode Island and the Massachusetts South Coast, according to US News and World Report’s new rankings. That news is accompanied by continuing enrollment gains and academic innovation.

Building upon these successes, the PCSB implemented a new MBA curriculum, revamped to increase rigor and emphasize quantitative coursework. Experts believe that deeper development of these quantitative skills builds confidence in using data to make strategic decisions.

“The entire business landscape is moving to using a more quantitative focus in their decision-making,” says Prof. Jon Jackson, one of the faculty members teaching in the PCSB MBA program.

Part of this revised curriculum is the new course, “Statistics for Business Analytics,” which can be taken with either an Excel or Python focus. The Python focused section, in addition to an online summer elective in Python programming, is of particular value to students in finance, accounting, analysts, and other jobs that require data analytics.

Another required course, “Analytics in Operations Management,” has been revised to delve deeper into using data to make strategic decisions. This integral business skill will help qualify program graduates for analyst positions in high-demand fields which could, according to an IBM study, create more than 2 million jobs in the coming years.

This renewed focus on analytic rigor flows into the Business Analytics Graduate Certificate, as well. This three-course program, now in its third year, incorporates the revised “Statistics for Business Analytics” course and two electives, including a consulting project. Graduate students who enter the PCSB pursuing the certificate only and make satisfactory progress have the option to then enroll in the MBA program. Similarly, some MBA students decide to incorporate the Business Analytics Graduate Certificate in their course of studies.Either way, all PC MBA students will now graduate with the data analytical skills needed to help be successful in a large variety of careers.
