Internship Spotlight: Ronald Fleming ’17

Ronald Fleming ’17, an accounting and finance double major, from Cold Spring Harbor, New York has built up several extraordinary internship experience over the past few years. This summer, Fleming interned in the heart of New York City at Business Insider, a fast-growing digital media platform focusing on financial, technology, political, and lifestyle content. His prior experiences at two other companies, 1stdibs.com and Airtime Media, coupled with the foundations of a PCSB education, positioned him as a perfect fit for this internship.

“My previous internship experiences at 1stdibs.com and Airtime helped me thrive at Business Insider,” said the Fleming. “At my other two internships, I gained many skills that I didn’t initially expect would come about, such as working with venture capital investor decks for their preferred stock financing. 1stdibs.com is a luxury e-commerce platform that focuses on furniture and antiques, while Airtime is a live video-streaming startup. I gained invaluable experience in the finance and marketing departments of these two unique companies, which turned out to help me at Business Insider.”

At Business Insider, Fleming was given many accounting and finance related assignments directly from the SVP of Finance. He reviewed the company’s monthly travel and entertainment expenses and then created the travel and entertainment monthly journal entries. Fleming also led a project that would implement a travel program to reduce expenses. Perhaps the most impressive task that Fleming completed was building and presenting a new revenue/budgeting model for Business Insider’s subscription business. Towards the end of his time at Business Insider, Fleming had the privilege of walking the President of Business Insider through the aforementioned model.

“It was a great experience,” said Fleming. “PCSB has definitely helped me a lot over the past several years, and I’m grateful for that.”
