Dean Sylvia Maxfield’s Argument for Saving the Humanities, Keeping the Business Schools

William Major, a professor of English at Hillyer College of the University of Hartford, initiated quite the lively conversation when his piece “Close Business Schools / Save the Humanities” was published on InsideHigherEd.com on July 28. As of today, his article has received more than 50 comments online.

Add to that PCSB Dean Sylvia Maxfield’s response, “Save the Humanities / Keep the Business Schools,” published today on InsideHigherEd.com.

“Beyond feeling good, we need the humanities departments precisely because they help our business students become individuals whose actions will demonstrate strong moral and ethical behavior,” she writes. “We need humanities departments to help illuminate the powerful ways in which business can be a force for good.”
